Tempest Aircraft Deicer

aircraft vehicle

The Tempest aircraft deicer is designed to provide the flexibility required to meet a wide range of demanding customer specifications for the mobile deicing and anti-icing of all types of aircraft. The Tempest has a low profile, purpose built chassis that provides the operator with excellent stability, maneuverability and visibility. The use of a hydrostatic drive system ensures safe, smooth and reliable ramp operations under even the harshest conditions.

The Tempest provides a lower Total Cost of Ownership with a single engine configuration with hydrostatic drive for ultimate simplicity, efficiency and cost-effectiveness; a custom-designed, low profile chassis for greater visibility and maneuverability; a swing out power module for easier and lower cost maintenance; and heavy-duty steel construction for durability and extended operating life.

AirFirstR Option

The Tempest deicer is available with an AirFirstR option which allows a reduction in glycol consumption of 30% to 70% depending on conditions. A turret mounted air nozzle is positioned on the front of the enclosed cabin. Fluid nozzles are also mounted on the turret for the application of deicing and anti-icing fluid. The Tempest with AirFirst has proven effective in a wide variety of snow, frost and icing conditions. It can be used to blow loose snow off an aircraft, to remove frost and as an air assist in the application of deicing and anti-icing fluids.

Enclosed Basket Option

The standard Tempest deicer is built with an open basket. However, it is also available with an enclosed cabin providing the operator with a stable environment. This allows them to concentrate on their critical tasks without the distraction from bitter cold, blasting wind and fluid spray back. A high back chair, cabin heater and activated-carbon fresh air filter provide operator comfort. The center of gravity is located under the operator's seat allowing fast sweeping rotation with minimal boom and/or body reaction. The operator is provided with all of the required information within the enclosed cabin including indicator lights for ready-to-spray, low fluid level, boom overloads, boom centered and boom parked. The enclosed cabin is available with either 2-man or 1-man drive.

Proportional Mix Option

The Tempest is available with an optional proportional mix system. The proportional mix control system consists of hydraulic and electronic components necessary to automatically adjust the mix ratio to a preset level. The proportional mix system provides the ability to adjust glycol use based on different weather conditions resulting in some glycol savings. Our proportional mix system is designed with the simplicity of both methodology and equipment in mind.

XR Option

The Tempest is available with an optional extended reach (XR) boom designed as a supplement to the standard enclosed cabin Tempest deicer. The XR boom is an extendable telescopic jib boom with the capability of reaching the highest point on the A380 at over 24 meters (79 feet).
