Airport Surface Friction Tester
In the end it is all about safety. When a few hundred tons of aircraft is going to land, then you need to have enough friction. Most importantly to be able to brake the aircraft before the end of the runway, but also to be able to control and steer the aircraft during landing and takeoff.
Both ICAO and FAA require all commercial airports to know the friction level on the runway and have full control over the landing and take-off conditions.
There is an operational need for reliable and uniform information concerning the friction characteristics of runways. Contaminants such as rubber deposits, dust particles, jet fuel, oil spillage, water, snow, ice and slush all cause friction loss on runway pavement surfaces.
Airport Surface Friction Tester (ASFT) is the world's leading manufacturer of Continuous Friction Measuring Equipment (CFME). ASFT friction measuring equipment is fully approved by UK CAA CAP683, Swedish CAA, FAA and ICAO. We can supply friction measuring equipment that meet the need of any airport, and our CFME are currently in use at more than 250 airports around the world.
ASFT - Saab 95
ASFT Saab 9-5 Wagon SFT was originally developed in cooperation with the National Swedish Traffic Research Institute, National Aeronautical Research Institute of Sweden, and Saab Automobile AB. ASFT was then approached by Saab Automobile AB and General Motors (GM) to manufacture and market the Saab SFT. This was a challenge that ASFT took on with great success. It also ensured the continued production and survival of the Saab SFT, or just SFT as it has become known to the world. Read more about Saab 95 ...
ASFT - VW Sharan

The VW Sharan is the ultimate multipurpose vehicle that can be used for other functions than surface friction measurements. The extra high seating level and large windows makes it ideal as an inspection, and follow me vehicle. The water tank is also removable in less then 5 minutes due to quick couplings for mounting and dismounting. With the water tank dismounted three additional seats can be reinstalled. The 145-200hp (106-147 kW) engine allows fast and safe driving in all different situations during measuring operations. Read more about VW Sharan ...

ASFT - Ford Taurus
The Surface Friction Tester (SFT) is a sophisticated and advanced equipment intergrated into a Ford Taurus V6. The front wheel drive with its compact and powerful engine leaves the rear end free for the advanced measuring equipment, giving easy access for service inspection. The weight distribution is perfect, as the big 500 l water tank is placed on the C.G. The 145-200hp (106-147 kW) engine allows fast and safe driving in all different situations during measuring operations. Read more about Ford Taurus ...
ASFT - T-10 Trailer
The T-10 trailer is based around a modified version of the rear axle found in the intergrated ASFT's. The trailer built around the axle is relatively light, and weight is then added by carefully positioned lead weight to ensure balance, stability, good road handling and reliable measurement. To ensure the safety of the operator, the trailer is equipped with inertia-activated hydraulic brakes. Read more about T-10 Trailer ...
ASFT - T2 GO
The T2GO Computer System was designed with many criteria's in mind, but to be as USER FRIENDLY as possible was the primary objective. This have resulted in an operating system that is unmatched in its industry. The onboard computer is used when operating the T2GO, and is completely automated. A measurement is initiated and cancelled by pushing the start key on the handlebar. The T2GO then gives continuous friction numbers (Mu-values/BPN/SRT) of the desired distance. ASFT - MK IV Computer System
The ASFT MkIV is a new generation of Surface Friction Testers building on the successful MKII version. The Computer System is completely redesigned to allow more advanced functions and to make the Friction System easy to operate and maintain. Modern electronics with microprocessors are used and controlled by computer software. The MKIV computer system is being used in all our models. Read more about MK IV Computer System ...
