Overaasen's snowclearing products for airports have contributed greatly to the company's leading worldwide position. Equipment is developed in close co-operation with professional users who set strict requirements for capacity, clearing speed and end results.

Runway sweepers form the most important product group in Overaasen's current product programme, and will undoubtedly remain a priority area also in future.

Our conscientious commitment to R&D has made it possible for customers to clear a 3,500 m long runway in 10 minutes. Mechanical snowclearing with brushes and a high-powered air stream also reduce the need for costly, environmentally harmful chemicals.

 

RS Series

The RS series is the most modern high capacity, high speed runway sweeper on the market today. The modular RS series boasts a large brush diameter and sleek, elegant design.

The easy-to-use computerized control system ensures a smooth and co-ordinated maneuver of the snow plow and sweeper based on hydraulic cylinders. Repositioning the machine no longer requires inductive switches or sensors that can corrode or malfunction when exposed to chemical-laden snow ice, and water.

Modular System 200

Overaasen's specialized, high-speed snowclearing units include trucks, snowploughs, and runway sweepers, all based on Overaasen's proven Modular System 200. Unlike most other snowclearing machinery, Overaasen's employs a system which allows the equipment to be quickly detached and interchanged with other Overaasen units to keep up with changing conditions. This modular concept, which has been compared to children's Lego blocks, offers operators great flexibility in dealing with the elements.

Overaasen's jumbo-sized RS 400 runway sweepers, with a 5-meter clearing width, are major time-savers, since an entire runway can be cleared in one sweep. In the past few years, Overaasen has delivered 50 of its RS-units to airports worldwide, including Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, and the world's highest airport, at Bangda in Tibet. The Modular System RS 200 consists of 4 main module groups. From these groups it is possible to build solutions and interchange units to satisfy the various, changing needs of an airport.

RS200/RSC200

The RS series is one of the most modern runway sweepers on the market today. The modular RS series boasts a large brush diameter and sleek, elegant construction.

The brush diameter has been increased to 1.2 m, resulting in higher capacity and improved horizontal throw of snow and/or debris. The computerized control system provides a new world of comfort for operators, while optimising efficiency.

To minimize brush wear, the broom's rotary speed adjusts automatically to the current brush diameter and the vehicle's operating speed. The RS series' full range of manoeuvres is based on hydraulic cylinders. Repositioning the machine no longer requires inductive switches or sensors that can corrode or malfunction when exposed to chemical-laden snow, ice and water.

The unique Finite Element Method used in design ensures that the machine does not bounce, even at very high operating speeds.

The RS Series comprises 5 main options:

- The RS 200, which can be delivered for semi-trailer or towed-behind operation.

- The RSC 200, a compact runway sweeper whose vehicle is equipped with a tractor unit in the front to provide running power.

- The RSF 200 front sweeper.

- The RSB 200 snowblower

The RSC 200 has many advantages, including its short length for manoeuvrability and its extreme stability during high-speed operations.

RS 400

Overaasen's jumbo-sized RS 400 runway sweeper, with its impressive 5-metre clearing width, is a major time-saver for airports with busy schedules. This standard module in Overaasen's Modular System also represents a lower total investment compared to conventional equipment, since snow clearing can be done with fewer machines and less man power, while less garage space is needed.

Oslo's new main airport has recently purchased seven RS 400 units, after especially difficult conditions led to excessive runway closure time in the airport's first winter. In reinforcing the airport's fleet of snowclearing equipment, officials decided on the jumbo-sized RS 400 for its ability to clear an entire runway in just one sweep. Runway closure time is expected to be cut in half.

RSB 200 and RSF 200

Designed especially for snow loading and snow removal at airports, RSB is a self-propelled snowblower built with the Modular System 200. It uses the same power pack as the RSC 200 and the RS 200, with a proven Overaasen dual-stage snowblower attached to the front. Adding the optional steerable rear axle provides remarkable manoeuvrability.

RSF 200 is the Modular System's front-mounted sweeper. Its combination of a large front-mounted broom and the standard airblower provides enormous capacity. As a frontline or tarmac sweeper, the RSF 200 is a fast, easy-to-use machine whose steerable rear axle provides an even smaller turning radius.
